The March meeting was another fascinating talk by Dr Ann Knief about ‘Kentish Seaside Resorts until World War 1’. We were told of the joys of travelling by steamer to the resorts before the railways, the fun to be had watching people using bathing machines, seaside landladies, as well as all the entertainments laid on for visitors. One of the illustrations showed us that dining chairs would be used on the sand before the invention of deck chairs, which must have damaged the chair legs.
Our next meeting will be on Monday 11th May at 8pm in the Horton Kirby Village Hall. Our speaker will be Colin Coe and the topic is “Rochester Then & Now and Kentish Villages”.

Our publications list will be available very soon, and we have plans to add other sections over time. There is also a Sutton at Hone local history blog on www.suttonathonehistory.co.uk. This is also work in process…
